Contact Your Reps Using ResistBot

ResistBot is a free service that helps you send messages to your members of Congress in under 2 minutes. It finds out who represents you in Congress or your state legislature and turns your text into an email, fax, or postal letter, and delivers it to your officials. Easy! We also have guides to help you contact your reps through a physical letter via the postal service, email via Democracy.io, or telephone.

Step 1: Go to resist.bot or click here. Click the link for your preferred platform (Facebook MessengerTwitter, or SMS text via 50409) and type out “resist” and send. (Below are screenshots of the SMS to 50409 method.)

Step 2: Pick “House,” “Senate,” “State,” or “President” to choose who to contact. Do not choose “Congress” because the Senate bill number is different from the House bill number.

Step 3: Follow the instructions and send your first and last name, then send your address when prompted.

Step 4: Copy and paste the following message for the author. For the Senate, write “S.1554.” For the House, write “H.R. 2731.” Replace the bolded text with your own information.

To “State” (e.g., your state of residence, Minnesota, Arizona):

“Adoptee justice is a family values issue and an immigration issue. Individuals who were

adopted into the U.S. as children are being deported as adults. I am asking you to submit a resolution to [State] General Assembly to encourage the U.S. Congress to keep families together and protect adoptees in your community.”

Step 5: Send “done” when you are finished!

Imagine learning as an adult that you are not a U.S. citizen after believing for your whole life you were.
Imagine getting deported from your family and home because the process failed you.

Many of us know someone who was adopted from another country. Over 500,000 children have been adopted by American families since the end of World War II. Many of our adopted family members, partners, friends, and co-workers did not have their U.S. citizenship secured when they were children.

Tell Congress to SUPPORT the Adoptee Citizenship Act of 2019 (H.R.2731). Signatures will be delivered by Adoptees For Justice, an adoptee-led organization.
